Buying only cruelty free cosmetics means that from now on, I will only purchase from brands that do not test on animals.
Animal testing is used all over the world for medicines, household products, cosmetics, etc… and personally, I think testing cosmetics on animals is unnecessary and cruel. There are over 7,000 FDA approved ingredients that cosmetic companies can use for their products. There are technologies available to mimic human tissue, eliminating the need to test new ingredients on animals. We do not need to torture animals that have no say in the matter just to put shit on our faces. (and I say this as a makeup LOVER).
I’m trying to be a more conscious consumer. I have the ability to be discerning with my product purchases, and this is a SUPER EASY way to reduce harm in the world.
For me personally, my goals are to only purchase makeup, skincare, fragrance, hair care, and body care products that are cruelty free. I will not be throwing away my current non-CF products, because that damage has already been done I guess? Plus, literally all of my perfumes are not CF and most of them were gifts, so I’m not tossing those. I don’t anticipate running out of perfume in the next lifetime, anyway.
Brands that have products I love that I will not be purchasing from in the future:
- Make Up For Ever
- Most designer brands (Dior, Giorgio Armani, YSL, etc…)
- Pretty much EVERY mainstream fragrance company
And honestly? I’ll be fine. Makeup, while a big hobby of mine, is a pretty frivolous thing in terms of what you “need” in life. There are SO MANY amazing brands that will have me 100% covered.
Brands that I LOVE that are cruelty free:
- Anastasia Beverly Hills
- Urban Decay
- Too Faced
- Dose of Colors
- Kylie Cosmetics
- Kat Von D
- Milk Makeup
- Bite Beauty
Obviously not all of them but a bunch that I love.
This is pretty exciting for me and I have thought about doing this for a while… and I finally thought about it and decided that I’m going to do it TODAY. Not some day, but today.
